Happy 2009 everyone!
It's a grave looking year ahead! But nevertheless, we'll overcome the HMT O levels, the economic crisis, the various blows singapore's reputation has suffered thanks to stuff like mauling at the zoo and the sg flyer, the fact that RI and RJ is merging and the future disasters that await us!
Man. The future looks grim. =/
Lolololol okay, now to my year reflections.
It's been quite a year, going through many ups and downs. As usual, walking through this life with the various things learnt each day. Memorable events this year would be...
WYSC OIP KOREA Science club exco Astrigue Astrochallenge Me playing the piano after a 6 year hiatus! :D EOYs -_-" And of course, people connections, but lets not go into that. ;)
Hmm. Just now I went out to holland for countdown. As usual. Lol there were firecrackers! I thought they were banned x) and yeah they were quite loud =/ then I walked past this wine and liquor area and suddenly someone opened a beer bottle and splashed the person right in front of me. xD then people were running around and they were WEDGIE-ING each other. Like o_0 and then everyone was screaming and all that. Lols.
Now. For 2009.
IYA! HMT OLEVELS =/ USAYPT/IYPT! HOCKEY B DIV! WYSC 09 (probably!) APAO (maybe!)
Many random stuff awaits! xD
Oh well. I suppose that's enough. I've been posting for a year already xD
Happy new year everyone! (:

Yawn.
Today, went to school at 8.30 for USAYPT/IYPT selection presentation. Well, I feel lucky that I didn't get the role of presenter (lol). I was just firing questions at the poor presenters =/ Oh well. I was surpirsed at the panel of judges rather - I knew half of them! (Lol half of them were from the IYA committee, xD) People like Pangwei and Weilin (ex - RJ astro chair) etc. Hmm. Yeah, it dragged on for quite a long time. Me Huiyao and Kang got so bored that we started flipping coins and pens (yes, pens lol). And we went for lunch only at 2.30 =/
Heheh. Lol when me Kang and Huiyao went for lunch, we heard the wonderful stories of Korea accomodation to the IJSO students. Communal bath ROFL xD
Ah right, we also met Matt's dad and sis at S11. Hmm.
Yeah, that's about it today.
No idea why, but i'm hell tired now. CHINESE!
2 days to school! Bye :D

Useless day, wasted at home, only went out to cut my hair.
Yeah. Cut my hair. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO D:
Ah well. I can't enter biz@sch anymore. Not that I don't want to, but then again, I tried my best finding people. Hmm.
Gained insights on how the Yen became stronger. It's quite funny but commonsensical actually.

Today. Hmm.
Stayed at home for a good half of the day before going to the hockey coach farewell dinner at 7.
Well... I guess it was okay. Lol the entire hockey team cramped into the house, which was quite funny. Heheh. Yep, basically we chatted a bit, then had this emotional farewell speech and yeah watching TV. But oh wells. It was okay I guess.
Hmm. Screw Chinese. I hate the work =/

Heheheh. Today.
Another day of hilarity - IYPT was quite funny. Ashwin and Yeo Jie... -_-" really have to hand it to them lol. Two genius physicists. And top jokers :D
Lol. Ashwin is sec 1, has gotten a bronze in JPHO, and took the sec 3 RA physics test and beat even Kang Zi Yang. =/ On the other hand, Yeo Jie, a sec 2, has finished A level physics with distinction and only sec 2 to get gold for JPHO. Bright guys eh.
Ah well. Their top joke - deciding where to go for lunch.
Me: Okay guys where do you guys want to go for lunch - S11? A & J: NO! J: Or maybe we could go to the hong kong restaurant last time A: No... they put alcohol in baked cheese rice. Who eats cheese in alcohol? I was feeling groggy after that. We should just go pizza hut/ Me: Eh no lol I don't like pizza (it's true!) J: then we could go to swensens or something? Me: Can we just go to the food court? Got variety... J: NO. It's not value for money. I mean, two pratas cost 7.40... that's daylight robbery A: Yeah that's even more expensive than pizza hut... Me: Aiyah like that might as well go S11 right?! A & J: Eh yeah S11 sounds good. Who said no ah?
(Then I walked ahead, leaving them at the back to argue it out xD)
Lol.
Anyway, we also had to do drilling... So, while we were drilling, there was some part which was hard enough to withstand drilling. Then Mr Krithin was suggesting we get a diamond drill bit.
Us: Eh, diamond drill bit a bit the ex eh. K: No prob, just give Mr Ho (the other instructor) some coal and he'll compress a diamond for you! Mr Ho: what?
Ahaha. Yeah so today we laughed a lot la.
Lol final pic of the day...
Yes, the person there is Kang. With a whiteboard full of equations, erpz.

Today was helluva fun-ny.
:D
Morning went church with Chew and family - attended CHINESE service. Lol. My chinese is pathetic =/ ah well at least I understood MOST of it. Haha. Then after that, went down to help serve lunch and talk about random stuff. Heheheh.
Then when to chew's house to play - we did even more card tricks (pure scam, as hongen would say xD) and yeah, ping pong. Gah. My smashes are so inaccurate now I don't know what to say... and hongen's countersmash is crazy. It's like, the chances of the ball crossing the table gets lower and lower - 100%, 70%, 15%. The speed of the ball keeps getting faster and faster O: Although I returned it like 3 out of 20 times, that's just scary...
Ah well. That's how I spent my christmas, just like any other day.
But I had fun and that's what matters! (Lol so cliched)
Okay, after today, it's back to business.

Yeah. So basically, nothing much has been done today.
And I've set a new record for an afternoon nap - 5 hours. Pwnt =/

Heheh. Just came back from bbq at mattie's house :D
Today - was boring except for the bbq. xD yeah Me Chew and Kang went... Naturally, you get auto-suanned by the IJSO medallists. Haha. We played... pingpong. Lols. Mattie got a Korean bat too! Ha. And yeah it was quite nice too. Korean bats = <3 lol. Played for quite a while, then Hongen had to go off for some dinner with his grandparents. Ah well. So Me Kang and Matt were talking about science club matters until we got bored (Which was quite fast) and started doing... card tricks. Lol! Yeah many of them were hilarious. So simple, yet so "magical". Ahaha. x)
The BBQ was yeah, pretty good, and I had fun toasting marshmellows lol. Crispy on the outside while almost liquid on the inside... mmm. :D
Haha yeah then we played more pingpong, and more card tricks, and socialized around with matthew's relatives. Lol. Kang the big and great keeps suanning me with his card tricks. Gah. Maybe someday I should like, point out at the card and say, I know you're cheating! Lols.
Okay, it may not look like anything much, but 4 hours just whizzed by like this. Yeah x)
Gah. A sad thing - Matthew may not be continuing scrabble anymore. He says he may be more interested in programming than scrabble =/. Ah well. Hongen definitely won't get serious in scrabble, Adil... is always too busy with debates and RIPB, so yeah it's just left with me and Zhiyuan. It's so depressing when I realize it... Sigh.
Never mind. I shall recruit lower sec students then lol xD

Played scrabble @ JG! With uh, weibin alpha gc cheah hubert dorai guanhui and ball. :D lol I played okay-ish, but I think it was horrible. Gah. I missed stuff like EUPHROE which I would never miss on ISC, but then again alpha didn't see it too xD.
Games played: 3
Won Guan Hui by 100+ (lucky break) Lost Ball by 70+ (phony threes) Lost Alpha by 40+ (less lucky than mr. tyco. Lol)
Okay I was joking for the last one. But yeah, shows that I have a lot to improve on if I ever want to win mil cup.

And I ponned training today. Thanks to a delibiating headache after listening to my mom nag for half an hour at me over my chinese homework. Which I really need to get started on, lol.

Okay. Today...
Was quite a random day. Had lots of fun at IYPT again xD
Training was boring, we had a match against NIE and I scored a goal. That was pretty much it.
Right, a picture post, so i'm going to post some random photos.
Lol an IYPT set up. It's supposed to be a lame joke btw... "sandwich" in chinese x)
Another IYPT photo. Ice cubes, each the size of my palm btw. Haha (you can see how much fun we're having, lol)
Right, this was at wysc - the window view from the hotel me and wzy was staying in. Haha nice right (:
And of course, not to forget Wzy, the most respectful person in the world who sleeps while facing his back to the speaker xD
This is just epic. Child prodigies. Victor against Suanne - Suanne only won by 50 pts. Which kinda shows Victor has a bright future :D
Right, that's all.
On a side note, I knew I should never have left my dad to fill in the wysc form for me. He put my favourite subject as CHEM and my hobby as ASTROPHYSICS. Lol now everyone thinks I'm some mugger and even Suanne asks me chem questions. That's damn wth - ask some god in chem like Chew la. Lol.
Oh and not to forget, GRATZ TO IJSO TEAM who has brought back 3 golds and 3 silvers! You've done sg proud :D congrats to (the great and imba x infinity) Mattie Kang and Chentian! For Chew - I know you were sick on that day, that's too bad, but getting a Silver is still very imba (: congrats!

Hmm okay today.
There was nothing much today - frankly, I think even the bus ride was more interesting than training. Lol.
Training was just an increase of yesterday's (which means, more tiring, lol) and since coach wasn't there, we just screwed up all our drills. Oh well. That's the hockey team for you.
Lol sometimes I just wished that I was born in a family with more humble parents.
Agh.

Mmm. Did quite a bit of thinking today.
But first, today's happenings.
Morning woke up at 7 (yes, wtf it's a holiday!) for training, only to find out that it was cancelled =/ since we have so many ponners. Gah. Then, to pass the time before going to IYPT at 9, I was studying differentiation. Note: It may sound mugger, but it isn't, because I'm the only one in IYPT selection team that doesn't know how to differentiate/ integrate. Gah. And all I have gotten up to is how to get the formula of the gradient, but do not understand limits. ARGH.
IYPT was just really more hands on work. I got really tired of it, but well it was quite fun la. Seeing that we were (once again) playing with stuff in the lab... xD
Then I went for lunch and spent 2 hrs travelling to NIE for the 2nd training session of the day. I fell asleep on the bus... and something interesting happened. I was supposed to be at NIE by 2.30. So, it was 1 when I boarded the bus, and then I sat at the window seat, propping my head on my left hand and fell asleep. When I woke up, I looked at my watch and saw the time was 2.45. Then I panicked, and pulled out my phone to call the other hockey players that I was going to be quite late (seeing that I still had to change another bus). But my handphone clock showed 1.45... and that was when I realized that I must have reset my watch while I was asleep. o_0
Right. Training wasn't as tough as yesterday, but still tough. OW MY KNEES OWOWOWOWOW =/
Ah well. That's about it. Now on to my deep (or maybe not so) reflections.
I was contemplating on how my life linked with the word "sacrifice".
I realized that in whatever you do, there must be things sacrificed. An example would be if you wanted to get good grades, you'll have to sacrifice your play time. Simply put, it's something like the saying: you can't have your cake and eat it. You take some, you lose some. Something that you can completely get is just an ideal, non-existent, futile.
A resembling quote from fate/stay night: "Don't be naive; you can never hold on to your ideals. Being able to save someone means there will be thousands which you will never be able to save".
So, what have I sacrificed in my life?
Plenty. The thing about life is, it's hard to choose what to sacrifice. You own so much at first, but then painfully you have to give them away, one by one. Knowing what to sacrifice carves your future. For me, I sacrificed my midnight talks to continue my obligation of studying, I sacrificed my time to play scrabble as a hobby. As I look back on these sacrifices, I am bemused by the various unorthodox ways I try to gain whatever I want, although mostly successful. They seem crude. Lol. Sacrifices are indeed hard to make, but that's life I guess.
Ah well. LAME JOKE TO END OFF :D
Q: Why does a lion eat raw meat? (Highlight bottom for answer!)
A: Because it can't cook!

Lol I overslept in the morning, but then training was cancelled due to rain, so yay lucky me xD
But then the afternoon training... you know, since I was warming my butt on the chair while playing scrabble for two weeks i kinda had no more fitness x)
Although the coach scolded me for no apparent reason, and made me run even more. Lol.
Ah well. Let's be a darrenkhoo.

Okay I'm back from penang.
Finally, I was ranked 26th for wysc, 4th in the Sg team (behind eden, zipeng and victor). Yeah, I managed to overtake wzy and blias, but lol seriously I'm terribly disappointed with myself. I know I'm better than this. 2/9 wins for the 1st day, then 6/9 and 3/4 for the second and third day respectively. My first day cost me so much. Sigh.
Things I have learnt - never to go into a competition without ample preparation (and mugging). Eden may have all the luck in the world, but even that would not have made sure he would win if he never prepared. I on the other hand, knowing my frequent bad draws, should have prepared way more to ensure I could win with skill rather than luck.
Also, I've learnt to be more... uhm... composed when there's a competition. If I relax like day 2 and 3 I can beat people like Sean Chung lol. Pity I was too nervous against Scott... and that took down my entire first day. Haiz.
Ah well. Racks. I must really re-plan my strategy for tackling bad racks. I must learn when I should change and when I shouldn't. Lol I just realized I had 7 vowels/consonants in a rack so many times and I never changed. Gah.
Okay. On to random stuff.
After WYSC, me wzy victor and my family went to play at the beach lol. We did parasailing, which was quite fun, and jet-skiing. Lol. Wzy went jet-skiing with me, I drove, and then was max-throttling all the way. You should have seen us when we got back on shore lol. Completely wet and my hair was... something that came out of an explosion. Ah well. It was fun :D
And we played pingpong there (like what's new!) lol. Ah well nothing much I guess, apart from the fact that I suck. Yay!
Hmm k. One last thing that I found which creeped me out like shit - Suanne stays a walkable distance from my house. O:
(holy crap I live so close to 10 scrabblers in A div lol)
Yep, I'll post pics up when I have the time.

Wednesday, December 10, 2008
Okay. Right. Posting on day 2 of WYSC.
I majorly screwed up the first day. 2/9 wins. Well, I can't say that it was mainly my luck, for I played quite badly (ignoring rack leave, etc.) for a few games. But yes, my luck SUCKED. I kept getting the wrong tiles at the wrong time and my opponent, on the other hand kept getting right tiles at the right time. Note that I never used the word 'nice'.
Day 2 was much better... 6 / 9 wins, 2 of the lost games were really unsalvageable (lol is that a word) and yeah, my racks were still sucky but i kept nice leaves. Ah well. I must win all 4 games tmr to have a chance in the top 20. =/
On the other hand, 8/18 games is the lowest score for the sg team btw (yes, i'm the lousiest in the sg team). KZP is in the lead, with 11 wins, followed by Eden (lol, lucky like shit) with 11 wins, then Blias with 10 wins, then Victor Gwee with 9.5 wins, then Zhiyuan with 9 wins, then me with 8. Lol. I really blame it largely to my luck. My first racks are never easy, and that affects the game (like wth will you play in ADFJNNO -_-). But then again, complaining won't help... lol even Blias and Wzy agrees that Eden has some godly hand and mine is cursed or sth =/ Sigh.
Lol. On a side note, gratz to WZY who has instantly won 200RM by playing highest scoring word, albeit with 2 blanks. ZaNJERoS for 257 pts. Lol. Well done :D
Argh. I'm playing Sean Chung tmr. Msia team this year is ridiculously strong. Go check the WYSC webpage for more details lol. 5 of them in top 10, wtf.
Yep, okay I should be studying now lol. Bye!

Lol. Posting from the hotel in KL, where I'll be stopping for one night before moving on to penang.
Okay, the ride wasn't much, so let's skip that bit.
I've done quite a lot of reflections (literally and laterally) while sitting in front of the study table using the com. You see, the hotel I'm staying in puts mirrors in front of study tables. =/
I've been thinking about OIP Korea for much of the journey here. How much it changed my life and affected my thinking etc. It was probably the best overseas trip in my life, thanks to the friends, scenery and fun. How I wish I could be back there again and such.
As I stared into the mirror blankly, I realized how long it was since I last looked at myself properly in the mirror (no kidding). I last looked at myself in the mirror properly at 11 years old (yes, 4 years), where I was much younger and cheerful. As compared to now, all I see are those dark shaded eyes, faded smile and of course, a much older (and uglier) person. It feels so weird when you realize time has passed so quickly, so much has happened and there has been so many changes. It all feels ethereal, dream-like, where I'm just being swept away in the torrential current of life to where I do not know.
OIP was something new to me, it showed me my younger self - fun loving and happy. The 8th and 9th graders were really warm and welcoming, and doubtless it was their innocence that I was drawn into. That feeling of youth is somehow... tempting, negating all responsibilities and just having fun. But as I embark on the road of adulthood, how will I face each an every obstacle? The mirror shows me how much has changed, yet it does not tell me how or why. Is this the side effect of maturing - sacrifice of idealisms?
JaeHyun wrote to me in his letter, "Someday we'll meet at the top of the world". I never felt much for that statement when I read it - now I know why. I was wondering this - will we meet at the top of the world as friends that can laugh and have fun with, or as important people with faked smiles and those beautifully woven lies with ulterior motives? I cannot answer to that. I can't find one either.
Sigh. It's all part of growing up I guess.
It's so hard to decide my path from here, but I'll move on step by step.
That's my food for thought today, praying the best for WYSC.
Bye.

Lol random jokes today:

Ah well...
Today was quite a day.
Lol ambiguity, sorry.
IYPT-ed the whole day again. We moved on to solve other problems, like me and Nathanael going to solve the Air Pocket problem, while Yeo Jie and Ashwin were doing the Faraday cage (resonating modes) question. Hmm. Many funny things happened, though I can't remember most of them. =/
Lame joke of the day-
We were analyzing our "Ice bulge" question samples and moving the ice samples around when Yeo Jie was trying to get the ice out of the plastic mold.
Yeo Jie: Argh it's so hard to break the ice out Me: Lol it's all a part of this IYPT icebreakers
Okay. Moving on to better things xD
Lol I have been once again astounded by the wonders of science. How do you make a piece of neodymium magnet (button magnet) rotate at 5800rpm with 3 simple, household appliances that don't cost more than 2 bucks in total? Easy - A nail, a wire (frayed ends) and a battery.
Okay, even though I said this, look at the overkill setup Daniel and Jie Liang did xD
Damn scary... lol.
Of course, the rpm is dependent on the strength of the magnet, so yeah... ;)
Right. Came home and played a bit more scrabble. Crap. Wzy is getting too pro. I can't even beat him now. Or maybe i'm just damn pathetic. Oh SCREW THIS SHIT. My parents aren't exactly helping either... keep complaining about me spending too much time on the com. =/

Today was a stay-at-home-and-no-life day.
Did completely nothing but scrabble, a bit of maple and chinese homework. And even chinese homework was quite fail... since I only found 2 articles. Zzz.
Scrabble was just really hardcore. I'm sure wzy improved so much when he never practice. Crap I really must buck up. 2 days left before I leave. Ugh. DAMMIT LA. Well at least I can see some significant improvement in my playing style now... hopefully quackling for the next two days will help.
On a side note, do your best Alpha! You can own causeway (And suanne tmr) xD Just do what you always tell me, relax and chill! :D
Ugh. And of course, at the same time, best of luck to the IJSO team! Win 4 golds! Okay obviously that's like, already secured xD
And yeah, happy trip to Sapporo, Greg! (:

Today was a day of much hilarity.
Well, okay not that much.
Went to school at 8.30 for IYPT experiments. Lol ice bulge was super hard to do =/ since we had to wait for the ice to freeze and all that. Plastic containers were a no-go, since they all cracked. Dammit. But I shall post a lame joke that struck me as quite random...
Ewan: Can we use cork as an insulating material instead Me: I guess so... but won't the cork break? Ewan: Oh yeah... when it bends too. Me: That's pretty corked (cocked) up.
Okay well, at that instance it was funny. Lame jokes are never funny if they aren't told face to face... gah.
Okay, back to business. Then we made our way to NUS for some physics thing, where I spent (Wtf) 3.5 hours learning about university statistics. Lol it was rather confusing but eventually I got the idea of it. The summations/ alphas/ sigmas all over the place were seriously intimidating, but I suppose it's really nothing compared to the black hole equation xD
Hmm yeah, that's about all I did today... Really, probably one of my most productive days (Except OIP of course!)
Better start on my chinese soon... ><

I'm watching fate/ stay night. It's like the only interesting show there is around. Srsly. Go read the synopsis on wiki if you guys want to know about it. But really, it is quite insightful. As in, the statements.
